1

In the beginning
when you couldn't sleep
I brought the sea to sing to you

while I,
pulled taut by the
muted hiss and draw

and tripwire cautious of your waking,
counted the cycles of the
ocean against

your breath,
mesmerized by
the depths of moonlit blue

in the sweep of your shoulder,
gentle and lovely as
the dunes at night.
